This picture was taken in Louisville Kentucky along the railroad. The rocks are used underneath, between, and all around the railroad tracks.

A quick explanation of the 200 year old process of installing railroad tracks:

  • Start with a foundation
  • Build the ground up high enough so it won’t flood
  • Add a hefty deposit of ¬†railroad rocks that have sharp edges
  • Next the giant eight foot long wooden (oak or hickory) beams that weight two hundred pounds each
  • Then the steel tracks are anchored onto the beams
